Z Is For Zamboni: A Hockey Alphabet
A couple years ago we got the idea to look for some hockey kids books to read to the boys. Our favorite is Z Is For Zamboni. It’s an alphabet book that uses a hockey reference for each letter of the alphabet. I love the illustrations and the it is well written making it fun to read to the kids. There is also a nice mix of hockey history in the book. My favorite part is that each page has a margin with more information about each topic. So you can read the main part of the book to little kids or go into even more detail for the bigger kids. If you know a hockey fan with a little rink rat at home, this is a perfect gift.
The Magic Hockey Stick

Last Christmas we were trying to think of neat present ideas for our two year old while we surfing Amazon. My wife got the brilliant idea of looking of childrens hockey books! We found a couple and decided to try them out.
The Magic Hockey Stick is not only a great hockey story, but a great children’s book overall. The story is about a little girl who loves hockey, especially the Rangers and Wayne Gretzky. The girls parents receive an invitation to one of the NY City sports charity auctions and decide to go. Her mom accidentally bids on Wayne Gretzky’s stick and the fun begins. The little girl starts sneaking the stick to her hockey games and scores a hat trick! Meanwhile Gretzky is in “the worst of all slumps”.
The writing is superb and fun to read and the drawings are great with lots of little details. My son loves this book and it is one of the few books that I don’t mind reading night after night. If you’re looking for a gift for a little rink rat then this is a great choice.
