Cameron Leaves the Senators
May 2, 2007
After 2 seasons of ‘Fire Cameron’ chants, the B-Sens head coach is finally leaving, but not how fans expected. Mike Cameron has accepted a job back in the OHL to be head coach and general manager of the St Michael’s Majors in Toronto. The move comes after Ottawa GM John Muckler gave Cameron a vote of confidence. I can draw one of three possible conclusions from this:
- Muckler was giving lip service and also a dignified out for Cameron who kept his mouth shut during two years of horrible hockey in Binghamton.
- Muckler was really planning to keep Cameron, but Cameron had had enough and found an easy out.
- Muckler and Ottawa owner Eugene Melnyk are still playing theold boys club games and rather than admit a mistake threw a lateral by reassigning Cameron back to a job he was once successful at.
As much as I would like to jump up and down and declare this a victory for Bingo fans, it remains to be seen who will be behind the bench next season. Assistant coach Mike Busniuk is an obvious choice, but I expect Muckler to pull in another old friend. We just need to hope that this old friend knows how to play AHL hockey and brings back some pride to this hockey town.
