Hamel Placed on Waivers

B-Sens have been waiting for it and now they have to hold their breath until noon on Saturday to see if former captain Denis Hamel clears waivers.
The Senators winger was placed on waivers today as the club decided it can no longer carry 22 healthy players. Hamel had seen game action while the Senators battled a spate of injuries through the first half of the season, but had been a healthy scratch since the return of most of the injured regulars.
Speculation has been rampant in recent days that the Senators would shed at least one of their extra players, if for no other reason than to create a bit more room under the salary cap if they want to make a move before the trade deadline. Hamel is making $450,000 this season.
I’m 50/50 on whether he’ll make it to Bingo. On one hand he is a cheap fill-in for teams looking for a replacement to injured players or who are planning to dump guys at the trade deadline. On the other hand, Hamel hasn’t done much in Ottawa this season and teams might feel they’re better off calling up some of their own prospects instead of renting Hamel who’s contract expires at the end of the season. If anyone picks him up they would be unable to send him to the minors without Ottawa getting a chance to take him back.

After months of waiting, the Binghamton Senators have officially renewed their lease agreement and their affiliation with Ottawa for 5 more years. Glad to have AHL hockey for the next 5 years, but now we need to hope that Ottawa changes GMs soon and starts paying more attention to their farm system. It really seems like this was another write-off year and Ottawa has been waiting for their next batch of prospects to graduate from juniors and NCAA before putting any money into this team.
Bochenski Traded to Boston

Just learned that former B-Sen Brandon Bochenski was traded by Chicago to Boston where he has scored 3 goals in his last 2 games. I’m curious to see if Bochenski can stick in the NHL after posting more impressive numbers in the AHL (33 goals, 33 assists in 35 games).
