Binghamton Jr Senators Pick C Team Coach
September 2, 2006
The Junior C team picked a familiar face to coach their team for the 2006/07 season. I think he’s a great pick and look forward to watching his team play.
The Binghamton Jr. Senators front office announced Tuesday that the head coach for the 2006-07 Junior C Team will be former Binghamton Ranger Peter Fiorentino. Currently a teacher at Union-Endicott High School, Fiorentino cited his love for teaching as a main reason for getting into coaching hockey.
After spending four seasons in the OHL with the Sault-Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and parts of two seasons in the IHL, Peter joined the AHL’s Binghamton Rangers in 1990-91. Making his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in 1991-92, Fiorentino was a stalwart on Binghamton’s blue line for seven seasons, including one year with the BC Icemen. During this time, he established Binghamton Ranger records for games played (421) and penalty minutes (1,659). He was elected into the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003.
Peter will look to guide this year’s Junior C team to even greater successes than last season, in which the team finished in eighth place during the regular season and made it to the league finals.
