Senators Flyers Hockey Fight

July 29, 2006

The huge fight between the Sens and Flyers that left two guys on the bench.

Alexandre Giroux signs with the Capitals

July 28, 2006

After leading the Hartford Wolf Pack in goals, Alexandre Giroux signed with the Washington Capitals.  Given the rebuilding effort going on in Washington, Giroux has a good shot to make the team.  Giroux played for the Binghamton Senators from 2002-2004.  He was traded for Greg Devries during the NY Rangers infamous player dump.

Brad Tapper signs with Philly

July 28, 2006

Former Binghamton Senator, Brad Tapper, has signed a one year contract with the Flyers.  Tapper will most likely play the season for their AHL team, the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Senators sign Maloney

July 27, 2006

The Ottawa Senators signed left winger Brian Maloney to a one year contract. Maloney looks like another Danny Bois type of type. A guy with some size who will play hard to score his goals. This is definitely the type of player that was missing from this roster. My question now is whether Ottawa will sign an enforcer to play in Binghamton or if they are going to rely on team toughness to protect their stars and prospects.

Billy Thompson signs with Islanders

July 27, 2006

After a dismall 2005/06 season, the Senators let Thompson walk and he signed a one year contract with the NY Islanders. B-Sens fans were looking forward to Thompson taking over the starting duties after he played great as Ray Emery’s backup the previous two years. Unfortunately, Thompson never settled in and struggled all season posting a 9-18-3 record with a 4.14 GAA. The Senators had problems with defense, but Thompson blew his fair share of winnable games and was the biggest reason for Binghamton’s failure to reach the playoffs. Thompson will most likely be playing in Bridgeport and we will see him several times next year.

Ray Emery Fights Josh Gratton

Stumbled across this fight on youtube.

Senators Add Jamie Allison, Bingo Roster Almost Complete

July 26, 2006

The Senators signed veteran defenseman Jamie Allison today and given that Ottawa’s blueline is already full it seems like that Allison will be playing in Bingo and acting as a backup incase of injury.  This is a fantastic move.  The B-Sens defense was horrible this year and they have been lacking a veteran presence in the players they have signed to date.  Allison will provide that along with some grit.  I’ve never seen him play, but I can say with confidence that he’s not as bad as Ward…hell, I don’t think its possible that anyone can be as bad as Ward :)

Allison, 31, joins the Senators for his 13th pro hockey season. In 2005-06, he suited up with his fourth and fifth NHL teams starting the season with the Nashville Predators and then claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers to end the schedule. He had one assist and 45 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Predators and 11 penalty minutes in seven games with the Panthers.

Since his first NHL game during the 1994-95 season with the Calgary Flames, Allison has registered seven goals, 23 penalty minutes and 639 penalty minutes over 372 games with the Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators.

Pecker Returns

July 26, 2006

The Senators signed RW Cory Pecker for the 2006/2007 season today.  Pecker played 24 games for the B-Sens last season, scoring 9 goals and 14 assists.  His speed and scoring touch were sorely needed last year.  This season he will be a veteran surrounded by many rookie players and will be looked upon to provide some leadership to go along with his scoring.  Pecker ended last season with a severe injury to his triceps.  He tried to return for the playoff run only to aggrivate the injury.

I foresee Pecker as a second line winger with the B-Sens, but a lot depends on who stays on with Ottawa out of training camp.  With the signing of Pecker, the B-Sens roster is almost full. They still need a couple more defensemen and one or two more forwards.  We’re also waiting for the Sens to sign an enforcer for this season.  The current rumor is Sean McMorrow.

Senators sign Chris Kelly

July 26, 2006

Chris KellyOttawa signed former B-Sens captain Chris Kelly to a one year deal yesterday and avoided arbitration.
