Senators 7 - Admirals 4
March 9, 2006
Woohoo! The B-Sens finally pasted a team and gave the home fans something to jump out of their seats for. Denis Hamel had the midas touch and everything he threw at the net seemed to find a way in. The game didn’t start that way with the Sens falling behind 2-0, but Cameron gave the boys a heated speech during the first intermission and they came out flying for the second period.
Hamel notched his second hat trick of the season and finished with four goals on the night, setting a new personal and franchise record with 42 on the season with 19 games left to play. Hamel also had 2 assists on the night, earning him #1 star. Linemate Brandon Bochenski scored two goals of his own and had 3 assists.
Kelly Guard looked a little soft in the first period, but settled down to keep the score close while his teammates started the comeback. What really turned the game around was the Sens being on the right side of numerous third period penalties. The Sens capitalized and finished the night 3 for 9 on the power play while keeping the Admirals scoreless on 7 PP opportunities.
Hopefully the Sens will continue playing with this new found determination as they begin a 3 game road trip this weekend.
Notes:
The Admirals are officially the nicest, most fan friendly team to visit Binghamton this season. The players come out of the locker room early and take the time to high five all the kids, talk to fans, and even play with the kids a little. Matt Keith has now become one of my favorite players. He’s had fun with my kids at several games now and last night he had a little tug-a-war with his hockey stick with my oldest. Even tough guy Shawn Thornton was great with the kids. During one of the intermissions Keith asked me what the latest trade news was. Don’t know why it hadn’t occurred to me before, but these guys must have been on edge waiting to hear if Chicago (their parent club) had dumped any players and created a few openings for callups on their roster.

I was so pleased to read your comments about Matt Keith. He became my favorite player the minute he put on an Admiral’s uniform and he continues to be my favorite player. He is the sweetest guy and a great hockey player.
